When I was a kid I played the euphonium, an instrument about as well known as the hurdy gurdy. For reasons I cannot now explain, I got pretty good at it and went to college on euphonium scholarship, eventually dropping it and dropping out to pursue life as a loser.
Anyway.
My niece, Jo, turned me on to the music of The Arcade Fire this summer. I was looking at some video of them on youtube last night, when lo! what should appear in the lower right hand corner at 1:04? A euphonium! Playing Neon Bible!
At first I thought I should have become an indie rocker too, since I happen to have that skill. But then I remembered they also sometimes play the hurdy gurdy.
ah, i love love them. and it was because of YOUR influence that i took up the euphonium in 4th grade. maybe we should start a euphonium band. maybe you should give me some lessons. ps. whatever, i would totally play the hurdy gurdy.
My son said he likes that music. He also said they are playing in their tornado shelter. I gotta get out of Iowa!
So “Elevator Music” has been redefined! I think there might be hope for my musical talent–perhaps I could play the tearing magazine. You were good on that euphonium!
WEll, I found it very rare to find someone who plays euphonium. But here we are, in an one family two used to be an euphoniumm player. hahaha. Any how, it is a fun instrument but very…. well, jsut say, low key instruments. hahahah. hey, some day, I love to hear you playing an euphonium. By the way, I did not know the spelling of the euphonium till I read your blog. hahaha.
Hi
I stumbled across your blog on LDS BLOGS. I thought you mighe be interested in a site my wife and I just built called MormonsMadeSimple.com, which uses simple, explanatory videos to explain the Mormon faith. Feel free to feature any of these videos on your blog, or just share them with non-member friends. We’re hoping these videos will be missionary tools to help members share their beliefs. Anyway, sorry to spam your comments section. I couldn’t find any contact information for you on your blog.

You’re a euphie?! I’d classify that as pretty sweet!
Not many people know that my second major was magazine ripping, aka mag tearing. Connie, I can give you private lessons some time;)
